One thing to strongly consider is if you are willing to take a chance with a drive that hasn’t been proven to fit in the D.Vine 5 case.

First I purchased the A08XL over the 108 retail model because it supposedly has additional quieting or vibration dampening specs. This may be complete BS however.

In any case, its a great drive, and very fast. I’ve been able to burn Ritek DVD+R 8x discs at 12x (about 6-7 min for entire DVD)

Anyway the problem with this drive in the D.Vine 5 case is twofold.

FIRST: Drive eject button does not match the location of the push button on the case

SECOND: The Drive tray does not match the case by design

The Case Button: Lets take a close look here and you will see that the drive has a recessed wide area with a center hole. This gave me an idea.

The Device: Take a credit card (cancelled of course). I cut it into a couple of rectangles that covered a general area of the drive and the case buttons. I taped the 2 pieces together using double sided tape, and cut a slit just about half way down the plastic to fit the next piece.

I took a paper clip and bent it with two 90 degree angles (almost elongated Z shaped). The one end is looped back through for added strength. This is the end that goes into the case button hole.

The paperclip was positioned within the slit as indicated below

The other end is

The last piece of work before installation was to add some double sided tape so that it would adhere the device into the case (with or without a drive)

Below you see pictures after I installed it. I ended up having to cut the erase and corresponding paper clip to precisely fit with the drive (these pictures are not shown)

Once it was installed, and the drive was positioned, you can see that the drive actually wedged the closed end with the tape between the case and the drive. This secured the device but gave it enough play to act as a lever and click the DVD button. Since it gets pinned between teh case and drive I uses that as a hinge to move foward and click the DVD drive eject button.

What you see here is the dvd drive installed and screwed in. What is a little difficult to notice is that I had to push the drives down and bent metal where it screws into the case in order to drop the assembly by about a half inch. With some bending and pushing, I got the tray to match up. I had to leave the screw above the DVD assembly out since the hole no longer lined up. But there is no danger of noise since the 2 peices of metal are far enough apart.

Take note that the MB 20pin power connection is directly at the back of the DVD drive and could get in the way of drives any longer than this one, unless you bend the power cables perpendicularly.
